Our Self-Advocacy team at OpenStoryTellers is taking part in a national project called Volunteering for Health with partners from the NHS and Spark Somerset. The project looks at how volunteering can improve people’s health and wellbeing.
We are exploring the barriers that people with disabilities face when trying to volunteer in Frome.
We are speaking to people and organisations about their experiences and finding out what makes volunteering difficult. This could include transport, lack of accessible information, confidence, or not knowing what opportunities are available.
Our aim is to help local organisations understand these barriers and make volunteering more welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to volunteer, learn new skills, make friends, and be part of their community.
Through this project, we hope to create positive change and encourage more people with disabilities to get involved in volunteering.
